Malcolm X Institute of Black Studies Presents Red Velvet

Red Velvet event flyerGet ready for a night of laughter and connection at Red Velvet sponsored by the Malcolm X Institute of Black Studies (MXIBS) at Wabash College. The annual event takes place Feb. 22, at 7:30 p.m. at Ball Theater in the Wabash College Fine Arts Center. Guests are invited to wear their finest formal attire and enjoy light appetizers, conversation, and a stellar lineup of musical and comedic performances. Celebrating Black beauty and excellence, the event will feature JC, Keya Tramell, Meechie Hall, and headliner Binkey.

“I’m excited for a wonderful evening filled with great music, laughter, and unforgettable moments, brought to life by a lineup of amazing artists,” said MXIBS Treasurer Declan Chhay-Vickers ’26.

The evening’s main event features Chicago’s Lawrence “Binkey” Tolefree. The master of energy, engagement, and entertainment blends his background in hip-hop, poetry, acting, stand-up, and improv to create a performance that’s as unpredictable as it is electrifying.

In addition, Keya Trammell will highlight her soulful vocals with a powerhouse performance. The Chicago Music Award Winner for Best Female Vocalist has been making waves since launching her career in 2016. She has opened for Grammy Award-winning artists like Chrisette Michele and contributed background vocals for Lupe Fiasco. Opening the night will be Meechie Hall and Jeremiah “JC” Clayton. Hall brings one-of-a-kind comedic style that blends freestyling, sharp-written material, and hilarious real-life experiences. Clayton is a junior at Wabash College who is carving out space as a creator in music and poetry, blending raw lyricism with authentic storytelling.

MXIBS Chairman Quinn Sholar ’26 said, “I am excited for everyone to see such a fantastic show ranging from music to comedy. Be ready to enjoy your time and head home afterward with a smile on your face!”

The event free and open public, although viewer discretion is advised. No ticket or reservation required. Formal attire is encouraged but not required. Don’t miss this unforgettable evening!
