Overview

The purpose of the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation is to provide a continuing source of highly qualified individuals to those fields of academic study and research. The Foundation awards scholarships to outstanding undergraduate students, on the basis of merit, to recognize and support those who have outstanding potential and intend to pursue research careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering.

Each scholarship covers eligible expenses for undergraduate tuition, fees, books, and room and board, up to a maximum of $7,500 annually. Students selected as sophomores are eligible for a maximum of two years/4 semesters, while those selected as juniors are eligible for a maximum of 1 year/2 semesters. Typically, 260 students are selected as Goldwater Scholars each year.

Eligibility Requirements

Four-year institutions are eligible to nominate up to four students who are in the sophomore or junior class during the 2015–2016 academic year.
Sophomores and Juniors are eligible, through the College's 皇冠足球比分_澳门皇冠体育-在线|平台@ Representative, Fellowship Advisor Susan Albrecht.
Candidates must have a "B" average and be in the upper 25% of their class.
Applicants must be a United States citizen, a permanent resident, or, in the case of students nominated from American Samoa or the Commonwealth of the Mariana Islands, a United States national. Nominations from permanent residents must include a letter of the nominated student's intent to obtain U.S. citizenship and a photocopy of the Permanent Resident Card.

Process

Students must be nominated by college, with no more than 4 students permitted a nomination each year.
Applications are usually available in September.
While the Goldwater application deadline is in mid-January, there is an internal campus deadline in early January.
Applicants will complete an interview with the Graduate Fellowship Committee.
Announcement of winners and honorable mentions will be made in late March.
